Our Time

With the busy summer season now a distant memory we are settled into our home for winter and have already begun to enjoy having our weekends back.  The previous few months have kept us pretty busy and now it's time to relax a little.

We have a car now too which makes adventures a whole lot more achievable and flexible.  These first few shots are taken on a road trip we took to a place called Fethiye to get our residence permit, obviously with a few detours on the way to the customs office.  It was here that I really started to notice just how much of this country's history still remains in the way of ruins...

This part of Turkey is particularly good cruising territory but is also popular with the tourists.  The colour of the ocean is enough to tempt anyone into visiting this beautiful place.

There is always some random funnies along the way in Turkey - be it a lonely goat who made his home on a leftover mattress or following signs to the 'toilet' only to end up at a hole in the ground - lovely!  Aside from the funnies we are often reminded that things haven't progressed as quickly here as in other parts of the country... or maybe the rural areas are just poor.  Road workers using pick axes instead of diggers and many similar stories...despite these short-comings the people are generally pretty friendly and helpful towards us.

Before we left Gocek (where we were based for the summer) we wanted to walk to the top of the hill up behind the marina, only we found out it was a 'prohibited' zone. - after some debating with the security, who realised we were going to do it regardless of what they said... they told us where to find the hole in the fence, classic.  The view was totally worth it...

From there we moved on up the coast to where we are now - Didim.  Once the boss man had left and we had scored ourselves a car we took off on a wee road trip to see Ephesus - some HUMUNGOUS old ruins.

The next few pics are taken in our neck of the woods... no road trips required for these ones.  Just last week there was a gullet race so we had a marina full of beautiful turkish boats.  Sailors of all ethnicities like their parties and this lot was no exception.  They had a band and some dancers and plenty of free flowing beer up at the yacht club which we made good use of.

So there you have it... in the next round comes more Turkish adventures and a trip to London for the ALL BLACKS!  Woot!
